John Gibson Fouldes
(Born
1884 - Died March 1952)
My Grandad's Dad. The
birth date is what I have found online - the date is not exact as it only
gives the "Quarter of Registration" which is "Oct-Nov-Dec"
in the disctrict of "Ecclesall Bierlow" in "Derbyshire, Yorkshire
- West Riding". Specific eh?!
According to the 1891 Census (at age 6) he was living at 12 Margerrison(?)
Street in Sheffield.
By the 1901 Census (at age 16) he was still at home and was now an apprentice
Silver & Goldsmith.
My Dad tells he also worked on the railway - apparently he got hit by a goods
waggon during this time.
It didn't kill him, but certainly did him no good either!
He married Alice Maud Beaumont in 1912 and they had one child my Grandad,
John Gibson Fouldes.
I think this name was forced upon my Great Grandad by his father as he told
my Grandad that if he ever had a boy "Don't call him John Gibson!!"
He also had an allotment in Sleaford where he lived. My Dad says he remembers
a picture of himself drumming next to his Grandad.
He was in the army - as far as I can tell from the pictures. I'm pretty sure
he served in the First World War.
He died around March time in 1952 - around 20 yeats before his wife.
